We are celebrating 20 years of championing systemic change.
In May 2005, the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction was co-convened by the Hamilton Community Foundation and the City of Hamilton, born out of concern for a 20% poverty rate affecting community health, our economic and social development, and the well-being of thousands of our residents. We came together through a collaborative approach to focus the community’s attention on poverty, and begin to find solutions. Since then, we have engaged diverse stakeholders, consulted widely, reviewed findings from local consultations on poverty related issues and explored best practices. The Roundtable has brought together business and government leaders, not for profit community funders, service providers and advocates As the process developed, it was recognized that it was also essential to bring the voices of those experiencing economic hardship to the table as equal partners. The Hamilton Roundtable has become an organization that helps drive community change and action.
We’ve been honoured to work towards everything from poverty reduction strategies to helping to assisting with the Ontario basic Income Pilot. There have been too many activities and community champions we’ve worked with over 2 decades to be able to include everyone by name but know you have been absolutely instrumental to all our work. You are our driving force.
